Cambridge University Fully Funded Scholarship 2018 Application

University Of Cambridge Fully Funded Scholarship for Undergraduate and Postgraduates studies 2018.

The Cambridge Commonwealth, European & International Trust was established on 1 August 2013 from the merger of the  Cambridge Commonwealth Trust  and the  Cambridge Overseas Trust.  These were established as charities by the University of Cambridge in the 1980s in order to provide financial support for international students on degree courses at Cambridge.

The Trust awards approximately 400 scholarships annually, and supports between 1,100 and 1,400 students in residence each year from 85 countries across the world.  During its history of over 30 years of offering scholarships at the University of Cambridge, the Trust has awarded a total of nearly 18,000 scholarships to international students.

Requirements:

  •     Applicants must be intending to start a course at the level of undergraduate (excluding UK/EU applicants), Masters (such as M Phil, MASt, LLM), or research postgraduate (such as PhD).
  •     All scholarships require that you apply to the University of Cambridge via the normal online application form, and most scholarships require that you apply by the relevant deadline.
  •     There are different procedures for applying for  undergraduate study    (BA and similar) and for  postgraduate study  (Masters, PhD and similar).
  •     Applicants may study any subject currently available at the University.

Scholarship Grant:

  •     University tuition fee
  •     Annual stipend (sufficient for single person)
  •     Return economy airfare

Eligibility Criteria:

The Trust is committed to equality of opportunity, and no applicant will be treated less favorably than another on the grounds of gender (including gender reassignment), marital or parental status, race, ethnic or national origin, color, disability, sexual orientation, religion or age.

The primary consideration in the selection of Scholars will be applicants’ ability to meet the selection criteria for each scholarship.

All students, irrespective of nationality, are eligible to be considered for funding by the Trust.
The Trust does not accept applications from students who are part-way through a course at Cambridge, unless they are applying for funding towards a higher degree course following graduation.

To find out more about your fee status, see information on the University’s web pages for  undergraduates  and for  postgraduates.

Please note that the Trust does not offer many scholarships to students on undergraduate courses, and has many more scholarship program available to postgraduate students.  Approximately 85% of the scholarships awarded each year are to students taking Masters or PhD degrees.

The Trust will not normally support students at a degree level that is the same as, or lower than, a degree they already hold, with two exceptions – we will consider an application from a student who is required to take a second Masters degree at Cambridge in order to gain admission to the PhD here, or from an international (non-EU) student who is proposing to study as an affiliated student at Cambridge for a second BA degree.

The Trust does not have scholarships available for post-doctoral positions, or for visiting or exchange students

The Trust does not have scholarships available for part-time postgraduate degrees, and part-time undergraduate study is not available at the University of Cambridge.

Applicants are encouraged to meet the entry requirements of the University as early as possible, including (if necessary) the completion of an English language test. This will help to prevent the Trust from offering valuable scholarships to students who are ultimately unable to take up their places at Cambridge.

Application and Admission All students must be admitted to the University of Cambridge through the normal application procedures. The Trust plays no role in the admission of applicants to the
University, and is not able to influence the chances of an applicant being offered a place. The University sets minimum standards – check the requirements for undergraduates and for postgraduates. Also check the information on application deadlines for  undergraduates  and  postgraduates.

Senate Begins Move to Scrap Post-Utme Screening Test

Senator-to-scrap-post-utme-test

Senators defend JAMB, condemn varsities’ Post-UTME test.

Senate to scrap Post-Utme test.

Members of the senate have condemned the Post-Utme test being conducted by Universities and has begun moves to scrap the test.

According to the reports on PUNCH website, the lawmakers, while debating a motion moved by Senator Umaru Kurfi (Katsina-Central) at the plenary on Tuesday, decried that candidates were finding it difficult to gain admission to Nigeria’s tertiary institutions but find it easy in other countries.

The motion was titled, ‘The Need to Revisit the Regulatory Conflict between Joint Admission and Matriculation Board and Universities in Offering Admission in Nigeria.’

Seconding the motion, Senator Shehu Sani decried that securing admission into tertiary institutions had become difficult at a time when Nigeria was struggling to protect its economy. He stated that there was the need to simplify the process of getting admission into higher institutions of learning.

He said, “JAMB has been literally ‘jamming’ the future of our young people in the sense that there have been a lot of impediments that have seriously affected their ability to get into university.

“Our concern is the fact that after JAMB (examination) is post-UTME. That becomes a series of hardships and sufferings on the way to university. The problem we are facing is peculiar to us. It is easier for a Nigerian to secure admission (into tertiary institutions) outside this country than it is here. Why should it be so?

“This is one opportunity through which this parliament can make a clear and categorical statement on the need for us to urge the Federal Government to intervene and do all that need to be done to make JAMB the only sensible, credible and efficient avenue for people to get
admission into university. This is the best option for us.”

In his submission, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, Senator Barau Jibrin, said JAMB was performing better under the current administration. “When you talk about the efficiency or integrity of JAMB, it has improved. Yes, a few years back, things were not going fine with JAMB. But the current administration of JAMB is doing very well,” he stated.

Jibrin also stated that there was no conflict between JAMB and universities on the recent downward review of cut-off marks for entry into tertiary institutions in the country.

He said the decision to set new cut-off marks was collectively done between JAMB, universities and other stakeholders, including the Senate committee. He added that the schools were at liberty to raise the marks individually.
